House Updates

August 26th, 2008 Posted in House&Home

I figured it was time to update on the house projects:

Master Bedroom – 98% done – walls painted, trim painted, doors painted, new carpet installed, ceiling scrapped, sanded and 95% painted (need to do trim areas), and windows were spackled and need sanding and painting. Later, crown moulding.

Guest Bedroom – 95% done – walls painted same as master, ceiling scrapped, sanded and painted, new carpets installed. Still need to paint trim. Later, crown moulding.

Design Studio (aka my office/scrapbook room) – 90% done – ceiling scrapped, sanded and painted, walls painted “studio beige”(need to finish trim areas on three walls), need to tape and paint trim, and carpet cleaning scheduled for Friday. Later, crown moulding.

Living room – carpet ripped out, ceilings scrapped and sanded, walls and ceiling primed, ugly gold rusted fireplace gate removed and fireplace swept out, hardwoods purchased but need to be installed. Later, crown moulding.

Kitchen – New and oh-so-gorgeous stainless steal fridge and gas stove installed, new kitchen faucet (minus the soap dispenser) installed by our friend Billy (I wanted a $300 one but had to settle due to cost… it’s just nice to have one that works and doesn’t spray everywhere), and half the island cleaned. Still need to paint walls/trim/doors, repair ceiling and then prime and paint, spruce up the sides of the cupoards and island with beadboard, paint cupboards white.

Laundry closet (off kitchen) – needs to be cleaned and painted. I bought a curtain rod and curtains to contain the area because the doors are missing.

Bathrooms – all need to be done, and I mean RE-DONE. We found major problems in the master shower, the guest shower is pulling the drywall off the wall and the bath shoudl be replaced, the downstairs bathroom has a small hole in the wall that peeks through to the garage, and they all need to be painted (cupboards too). We aloready bought 2 new light fixtures from Sam’s Club for $30 a piece to replace the ugle “Hollywood” lights, and I think I will go pick up three more and use them in all the bathrooms. For the price, you cannot beat it. We also have 2 new bathroom faucets from Sam’s Club for $40 to go in one of the bathrooms. I also need to cut mirrors down (they are huge) and frame them in with trim. I have the glass cutter and we have a mitre saw, so I don’t think it will be too bad… and I’d rather have 2 smaller vertical, framed in mirrors than the one big stuck to the wall mirror. And I think it’s cool that we are trying to use what we have in the house instead of buying all new… who the hell has the  money for that? And this way, we are generating less waste.

David’s Game Room – carpets ripped out (going bare for a while until we can afford more hardwoods), and ceilings are scrapped and sanded. For the most part, the whole room needs to be done.

Dining Room – Floral border removed and ceilings scrapped and sanded. The whole room needs to be done. We want to install tung-and-groove paneling and eventually replace the laminate flooring with hardwoods.

David’s Office (ie. the extra room of the house) – scrapped and sanded. The whole room needs to be done still.

New water heater installed and working beuitifully (we have hot water!!! Who-hoo!), thanks to our friend Billy.

Coat closet cleaned and filled with coats already (it looked like someone threw-up on the door previously).

So that’s where we are at. We get the moving truck and officially move on Thursday. The majority of the house still needs to be cleaned, so that will be our project tonight. We already started moving some of our stuff, so hopefully it won’t be that bad… although we haven’t really packed much. Technically, the most important thing is the furniture though and we don’t need to be out until the last day of the month. And on Friday, the carpet cleaners come to clean the crap out of the carpet in my design studio, the hallway, and the stairs. Say a prayer, cause they look horrible. Also on Friday, DirectTV comes to give us cable. And wouldn’t you know, it’s cheaper than Time Warner, and we get every channel they have for 4 months. David is pretty happy because he can now get the YES Network (Yankees all the time).

So that’s where we are for now and we will post pictures as rooms get completed.
