Personal Projects
January 18th, 2008 Posted in Knitting, Misc.Last night I finished “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” and LOVED IT! Now, I actually have all 5 of the series in one book, so I am going to continue to read them all and I have started the “Restaurant at the End of the Universe.” I guess that is sorta cheating on my New Year’s goal of one book per month, seeing that as a volume I did not finish it, but technically that IS one book if I would have bought them all separate.
I also want to start setting aside some time for some knitting projects. I do not claim to be any good at knitting and after three years still consider myself a beginner, but I bought a few patterns I want to try. Some I know I can do, and others… not so sure. I’m pretty confident that I can handle the bag and pillows, but I really love the vest, sweater and wrist cuffs. Maybe these are the exact projects I need to step outside my level of comfort to get better. The first bag is from Lion Brand, and the others are from Knitting Daily (except the last one). Both sites have tons of free patterns, if you are so inclined to make any. I myslef have downloaded a few that I have never attempted, including the last thumbnail below which you can find here. I just think those Day of the Dead dolls are HILLARIOUS!
There are also some great projects in the book AlterKnits, which my mom gave me as a Christmas present and I LOVE IT. For other great knitting books (in case you want to learn or grow your library), I highly reccomend any of the Stitch-N-Bitch Books (there are several – get the first one first. These are great when you are just starting out), One-Skein Wonders (fast and cute little projects), Knitting for Peace (with a name like that, how can you not? Great, natural looking projects in it, which I love!), and I also like Holiday Knits. I also want to get: Knit: Handmade Style and Knitting Little Luxeries.
