Sickness and taxes

April 18th, 2007 Posted in Cool Stuff, Misc.

Man, oh man! Doing taxes made me sick… literally. I caught some sort of 24-hour bug yesterday that was not good. I pretty much stayed in bed the entire day, curled up in the fetal position. Yeah, it was that bad. Luckily David did not get it and he was able to use our baseball tickets to see the Nationals in DC (we split season passes with four of David’s friends a while back). He took a friend in my place and they had a great time (John had never been to a pro baseball game). I’m glad they had a better time than I did. Luckily by the time they left, I was feeling much better and David did not need to stay (he offered several times but I told him to go because we already passed on our first tickets).

And after many hours and many tears, my stupid taxes are done (as are David’s). Mine were not so bad for this year, but I had some ammendments to last years that would not take so well in Turbo Tax. I had to do a lot of it by hand, and when I read tax stuff it is like reading Japanese… you feel me? They never make much sense. And why is it that they cannot put little links that say “explain more” or something so that you can get a description of what they are talking about in layman’s terms? Overall though, I am getting $192 from federal and $300 or so from state. Not bad. It would have been higher, but thanks to my great bonus last year, I made too much money to claim my school interest which really stunk. Usually I get back close to a grand. And because we don’t own a house, we don’t get to take advantage of any deductions. Oh well. Getting back some is better than owing, right?

And I also wanted to share something totally cool with you. When my sister was here I took her to Chipotle, my favorite place to eat (it’s so much better than fast food and made with natural ingredients and no chemicals). When we paid for our burrito bols, we got this form. Try to zoom in and read everything on it… I thought it was pretty ingenious and so much fun to honor tax time. Well, with that form and our receipt from that day, David and I were able to take it back on Monday and got free burritos! Yippee! We certainly took advantage of that!
